What is Feng Shui?

· August 8, 2020

Feng Shui is a complex pseudoscience developed in China dating back to 4000 B.C. Historically, it was used in many hallowed structures to orient the building in such a way as to collect and circulate good energy (chi). Over time, it has also been incorporated in how you arrange and keep your home. It is a complicated process but here are a few quick tips:

• Always keep the bathroom door closed and the toilet seat down. The belief behind this is that water is related to wealth, so you do not want water/wealth escaping your home.

• Where you place your chair in a home office is important. You do not want your chair facing away from the door, as this does not put you in a commanding position.

• In a baby’s room, you want the bed away from the door and electrical appliances. Electronics near the baby is thought to put an electromagnetic energy around the child.

• Crystals are often used to generate energy in spots that may be lacking.

• A nice fountain or aquarium is thought to bring good energy into a space.

• Mirrors help to activate, circulate, expand and deflect energy.

• Symbols such as a Buddha, lucky bamboo, Fu dogs, or dragon statues are talismans to represent good energy.

It is advised that you do not neglect less used rooms but incorporate feng shui in all parts of your home in order to generate good energy.
